Silk road Race Costs and information
The cost of Silk road Race is an issue which basically depends on how much you want to spend. You could swap your used mobile phone and two old tanks for a Euro zero car and start your journey to the Pamir Highway - after having the car serviced- passing by Samarkand, excited as a child with his face covered with dust, or you can choose to participate to the Silk Road Race by paying a convoy of kazakh shepherds through all Central Asia. Further on you'll find a list of the main items of costs. This is not a complete list, but very close to be. We recommend that you have cash with you when traveling, even if you will take most of the costs before your departure. The costs can easily be covered with the help of friends, family, neighbours and colleagues who can be involved in your fund-raising campaign. Help us to raise as much funds as possible for the NGO we support. Silk Road Race is also this.
Silk road Race Registration fee: €.499/team (car) €.250/team (motorbike)
If, as we recommend, you are 3 on your car, it will not even be €170 per person!
More people you'll have on your team (team” means “one vehicle”) plus the costs will decrease.
This fee includes the registration card to Partenza Intelligente Association, simple instructions for the donation of the car in Tajikistan (in practice we'll do it, you just have to put a signature), pre-departure meeting in Milan, maps, Silk road Race t-shirts x 2, and the Silk road Race Pack!
If you come by motorbike, maybe you'll not share the registration fee, but you'll enjoy more!
Charity Donation fee: €.950 or €.1100/team (car) €.300/team (motorbike)
Silk road Race is a challenge not only by road but also in the heads and hearts of those who participate. Because this challenge is won, we require each crew an effort, a concrete action that will directly be donated to the NGO that we support. We're talking about €.950 team, that not necessarily you’ll have to pay directly: organize a Charity Party in the garden, near the river or wherever you want and sensitizes friends, neighbors, relatives and colleagues to assist you with fundraising. Due to the transparency of the project exceeding the minimum target will be fun and easier than you think. You can also start an online fundraising with Kapipal
service and integrate the Kapipal badge in your teams page!
This fee includes the Custom Tax, an amount that will not go, nor to whom who is writing, or to CESVI, but to the Tajik government.
If you car will be not included in the list that you find here http://www.silkroadrace.com/vehicles , we will ask to donate €150 (total charity fee €.1100) to Cesvi NGO, that will contribute to more expensive cost for tajikistan custom tax.
This depends on the countries in which you decide to cross. The costs will be per person and not per Team.
Remember that Partenza Intelligente is not a travel agency: we do not deal with visas but it’s for this reason that we have some techinal partners that could help you. Thanks to them, if you want, you can avoid - on terms very favorable - wasting precious days parked in some remote Russian border waiting for a permission.
This all depends on you vehicle, on how heavy you are on the accelerator and on the price of petrol. However remember that we are talking about 8.000 km mainly outside of Europe where the petrol usually costs less than 1 Euro and with a vehicle with a low consumption.
For most of the trip, you can enjoy real mouth-watering ethnic dishes spending a few euros per day. We like to think that Silk road Race is an attempt to discover not only the road or off-road routes, but also the taste of the local dishes. It all depends on how hungry you are after a long hard day rallying.
You must choose the most suitable vehicle for your team. A vehicle that has not more than 70 hp could bring you safely to the final destination choosing suitable routes (we will present a number of possibile routes in the pre-departure meeting), although sometimes you could be forced to face slopes and sand. You could buy a car from your neighbour or even from a secondhand magazine for as little as €.500.
Preparing your vehicle
A journey to Central Asia is not a joke but it’s a lot less nerve-racking than taking the ring road in your own city. Arriving at your final destination depends on your skills and on the spare parts that you bring with you. This is not an organized tour but a real challenge. If you fall in love with the beauty of the place and decide to stop along the way you do, but you will not know what it is fascinating Central Asia. During the pre departure meeting in Milan we’ll give you advice on the preparation of your vehicle, maps, Dogon Challenge stickers and various other material and suggestions that could be useful to your team and your car. The adventure is already parked outside your front door.
The most sensible thing to do is to consult your local medical clinic for advice on the required vaccinations and any other questions or doubts you might have from a health point of view for your trip in Central Asia.
Global experience and various mishaps
Let's start with a very simple point, but equally important: in the Countries you’ll pass by, the people are generally very welcoming and warm towards foreigners. Despite this, one who has experience travelling knows about the challenges that they might encounter. You might be stopped by the police and they might give you a fine for an excess of speeding that does not exist, or because your vehicle is not the colour suggested by local regulations. Everything will depend on your ability to conclude tiring negotiations in your favour, after having tried to explain with ridiculous gestures why your rickety 4-wheels are directed towards East. But you should be aware that the people that you meet on the side of the road or that stop you, could be there for days and meeting someone is an opportunity to have a chat.
Maps (included in the registration fee)
We will provide you with basic maps and the information necessary for navigation, we will indicate in the pre-departure briefing some of the routes that can be used on / off roads. Then it’s up to you to choose. With the directions that we give you, you will not need a GPS, or equipment of an XXIII century explorer, but only the urge to set off.
Sleep? It’s better not to drive at night. Think of traveling in the desert for days and to see suddenly on the horizon a ship in the sand! Why not stay overnight where there was once the Aral Sea, a few hundred miles from Samarkand? You can enjoy the fantastic night of stars at the edge of your vehicle on the road, “folded down seat version”, or more comfortably in a Tajik tent, or even more comfortably in a hotel along the way: the choice is yours.
Important: Car documentation and return journey
Once you arrive at the NGO premises in Dushanbe-Tajikistan you can leave your car there, as a gift or have it be put up for sale at auction where the proceeds will be donated to the NGO CESVI projects. We will take care of all the mandatory practice involved allowing you to fly home in peace. The decision to leave your car in Tajikistan must be confirmed during your registration to Silk road Race, so that we can make the necessary arrangements with the local government. For any other decision that you make, during the rally, regarding your vehicle you are solely responsible. The return journey is at your own expense and remember that we will not give visas, so you can ask if you want to our technical partners.
